Playa De San Juan
Considered to be one of Spain's most beautiful beaches, Playa De San Juan lies just to the north of Alicante city. Being on the outskirts of the city and backed by residential areas, the attraction of Playa De San Juan is certainly not its facilities but rather its wonderful stretch of golden sand that continues uninterrupted for its entire 7 kilometre length.
Playa De San Juan Amenities
The beach is not entirely lacking in amenities as it is backed by a tram line that runs from Alicante City to neighbouring El Campello with 5 stops along the length of the beach and continues to Benidorm and beyond. The first third of the beach closest to the city has a decent amount of bars and restaurants within a short walk as well as a couple of shops, ice cream parlour, McDonald's and tourist information bureau. The middle part of the beach only has a couple of beach bars and the last stretch before El Campello a further few bars and restaurants.
With Alicante close by, Playa De San Juan is certainly not lacking in surrounding attractions, and after spending the day on the beach visitors have the delights of the city to explore. Dominated by the Santa Bárbara Castle, the picturesque L'Ereta Park spreads out below and leads visitors towards the city centre in a series of terraces with shady picnic areas and panoramic view points. The city's cosmopolitan marina is one of its highlights and a berthing point for million euro yachts where you will find fine dining and a large well appointed casino.
Just a short drive north is the popular seaside town of El Campello that offers a choice of sandy beaches, the main one backed by a promenade lined with a great selection of lively bars and restaurants. The highlight here for many is the famous Valor Chocolate Factory that offers visitors free tours as well as chocolate tasting.
