Spain is a superb destination for outdoor sporting activities and with an average of 325 sunny days per year, tennis in Costa Blanca is very popular. Over the years Spain has been the birthplace of many sporting greats across a wide range of sports disciplines, and one of the country's most loved sons is the tennis legend Rafael Nadal. A memorable moment in Spain's tennis history came in 2008 when Nadal defeated Roger Federer in one of the greatest tennis matches ever played to take the men's Wimbledon Trophy. This was a good year for the legend as he was also Gold Medallist at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

There are many venues to enjoy a game of tennis in Costa Blanca and a unique housing aspect of this part of Spain is the amount of ‘gated communities' spread throughout the towns and cities residential areas. This type of housing is very popular among the Costa Blanca's expat residents and also a popular choice for holidaymakers to the area. Choosing to live in a gated community provides residents with added security and in most cases, the use of shared facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, social clubs, parks and playgrounds. For an annual fee these facilities are available to residents and their guests all year round and provide an excellent accommodation choice for holidaymakers.

Practically every town, and certainly every city in Costa Blanca has at least one sports or tennis club where visitors can make use of the facilities for an hourly or daily fee. Another option for playing tennis in Costa Blanca are the hotels, and especially the resort hotels that usually boast a golf course but in many cases also have tennis courts available to the general public. Kids and teens who are keen on tennis can enlist in a choice of summer camps in Costa Blanca that usually combine Spanish lessons with a selection sports and activities, some boasting top class tennis academies for youngsters who wish to take up the sport professionally.

Tennis Venues

Pilar de la Horadada – Located on Av. de la Torre, the large Polideportivo Municipal is a great venue for all sorts of sports and boasts 2 clay and 6 hard surface tennis courts. There is also 2 full size football pitches, athletics track, skateboard park, year round swimming pools and a large multi-use sports hall with various sports courts and a rock climbing wall.

Orihuela Costa – Located on Calle Niagara 23 in the residential area of Playa Flamenca, Centro Deportivo Municipal is a popular sports centre with 2 tennis courts, multi-sports courts, running track, football pitches, an indoor heated swimming pool and on-site cafeteria. A further 3 tennis courts available to the public can be found at the Orihuela Costa Resort located on Av. de las Palmeras in the residential area of La Zenia.

Torrevieja – Located on Calle Tomás Martínez Domenech in the residential area of Los Balcones, Torrevieja Tennis Club boasts 6 clay and 2 hard surface tennis courts as well as a practice court. They also offer a tennis school, summer camp and tennis lessons for all ages. Located just off Av. de las Cortes Valencianas, the amazing Torrevieja Sports City is one of Spain's largest sports centres and plays host to a number of national and international sports events. Aside from it's other superb facilities, Sports City houses no less than 10 tennis courts and a central competition tennis stadium with the capacity for large tennis tournaments.

Guardamar del Segura – Located on Av. de Europa, the Palau Sant Jaume Municipal Sports Centre offers a range of sports facilities including tennis and squash courts, and is the home venue for Guardamar Badminton Club.

Santa Pola – Located on Calle Caridad Soler Dura, Club de Tenis Oscar Borrás is a small tennis club with only 1 clay court, although other tennis courts can be found in the town's residential areas and in nearby La Marina.

Alicante – Located on Calle Sol Naciente with lovely sea views, Hotel Albahia is a popular venue for tennis with 9 courts and private coaching sessions available. When it comes to tennis in Costa Blanca, clubs don't get much bigger than the excellent Club Atlético Montemar located on Calle Virgilio and boasting a whopping 21 tennis courts that have been the venue for a number of international tennis tournaments. Further courts can be found at Club de Tenis Y Padel Mutxamel on Partida del Collao 5.

El Campello – Located on Carrer Músic Mestre Breton next to the BMX track, Club de Tenis El Campello offers 7 tennis courts of mixed surfaces.

Villajoyosa – Located on Carretera del Port 22, Villajoyosa Club de Tenis is a favourite venue for the towns expat community and has a number of clay courts as well as a Tennis School.

Benidorm – Located on Sendera de la Barrina, IQL Tennis Academy boasts 6 greenset courts, 4 clay courts, 3 mini tennis courts and a multi-activity court. Being an academy they also offer tennis programs an clinics for juniors, adults, teams and elite, as well as tennis vacations. Located on Camino Veijo de L'Alfas 34, Finca Guila Tenis offers 4 soft and 1 gravel tennis courts as well as a bowling green, pro shop and cafe. A new concept of tennis in Costa Blanca can be experienced at Tennis Benidorm located on Calle Marqués de Comillas close to the old town. Cardio Tennis mixes various warm ups and cardio exercises combined with tennis for a complete workout while having fun. They also offer tennis for kids, adults, pro's and tourists.

Altea – Forming part of the fantastic Albir Garden Resort located on Camino Viejo de Altea, Albir Garden Sports offer a superb range of sporting activities including 4 clay and 6 hard surface tennis courts open to the public. A further 4 courts can be found at the Altea Hills Tennis Club located on Calle de Suecia 7.

Calpe – Located on Partida Gargasindi, Club de Tenis Calpe boasts 5 clay and 1 astro-turf tennis courts as well as padel courts, football facilities, gymnasium, swimming pool and restaurant. They also offer a tennis school for children, teens and adults. Further clay and hard surface courts can be found at Maryvilla Tennis Club who unfortunately don't list their address.

Jávea – Located on Av. del Pla 118, Club de Tenis Jávea offer 8 tennis courts as well as padel, squash, gymnasium, swimming pool, club house and the prestigious Ferrer Tennis Academy. Located at Ctra Cabo de la Nao, km 11, Los Pinos Tennis Club boast 7 ITF approved clay courts and 1 hard court. They are also home to the Peinado Tennis University where they offer private lessons and programs for children, adults and advanced players, as well as a tennis summer camp and tennis holidays. A further 4 courts can be found at the L'Ancora Tennis Club located on Av. Paris 24 where visitors can also enjoy the swimming pool and cafe bar.

Dénia – Located on Av. de la Marina Baixa and forming part of the splendid five star La Sella Golf Resort, La Sella Tennis Club offer a number of grass and clay courts as well as extensive tennis programs and lessons for children, adults and teams.

The above listed venues for tennis in Costa Blanca are the more popular ones, and by no means the only locations to enjoy a game of tennis in Costa Blanca as there are many more tennis courts and smaller clubs throughout the Costa Blanca's residential areas and lesser known towns and villages.

Summer Camps

Summer camps in Costa Blanca are a superb way for children to learn Spanish and have great fun at the same time, meeting new friends, discovering different cultures and practising a choice of sporting disciplines.
