The city of Novelda lies 25 kilometres inland from Alicante overlooking the Vinalope Valley and is referred to as the ‘Spanish capital of marble'. Beautifully decorated marble buildings can be seen amidst the picturesque squares and plazas alongside fine examples of 17th century architecture.
Wondering the streets of the Old Town makes for a pleasant stroll where visitors can see the grand city hall and church of San Pedro, stop for a drink or snack in one of the traditional tapas bars or sit down to a delightful meal in one of the many restaurants. Further historical attractions in Novelda include the Castle of La Mola and Sanctuary of Saint Mary Magdalena which is located further inland from the city.
A bit off the beaten track when it comes to tourist hot spots, many visitors staying in Novelda are there to enjoy outdoor pursuits in the Vinalope Valley and hiking and rock climbing in the nearby Serra del Maigmó and Serra del Sit mountain ranges. Home to a number of streams, rivers and lakes, the area is also a good place to try a bit of fishing.
A short drive from the city is the splendid Club de Golf Alenda that boasts a challenging 18 hole, par 72 course, practice area, driving range and golf school. The equally as impressive club house offers a modern gymnasium with pilates area, padel court, sauna and virtual training lessons as well as group classes and personal trainers.
Children are looked after in the Kids Club with fun games, table tennis, table football and music. The Pro Shop stocks top brand products and clothing for both golf and padel, and various golf equipment is available for hire. 18 holes of golf certainly works up an appetite and visitors to the club can enjoy a snack menu on the Alenda Terrace offering wonderful views, or fine dining in the stylish Alenda Restaurant.
