Sports clubs in Costa Blanca come in all shapes and sizes, from small back street boxing gyms to huge sports complexes that play host to a wide variety of national and international sporting events. Spain is a nation of sports lovers, and combined with a healthy Mediterranean diet it's no wonder Spain's residents are recognised as having the second highest life expectancy in the world. The country has many famous sports teams and personalities including some of the world's best football teams, the tennis legend Rafael Nadal, formula one champion Fernando Alonso and golfing greats Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábel and Sergio García.
Sporting facilities can be found throughout the Costa Blanca, with most of its more popular beaches offering a superb range of thrilling water sports, beach volleyball and exercise equipment. Petanca or boulles courts take up little space and minimum effort to construct, can be seen in just about every park or piece of waste ground, and are a favourite pastime with many of Costa Blanca's northern European expat communities. Hotels, and especially resort hotels offer a further excellent choice of sporting activities, many available to members of the public. So, in order for this article not turn into a sports encyclopedia we will stick to listing the more popular sports clubs in Costa Blanca.
