Hoof and Mountain Adventures

Originally opened in 2003 as an accommodation retreat for rock climbing, Hoof And Mountain Adventures has expanded to include a selection of excellent horse riding treks. Run by British couple Rich and Sam, the rock climbing accommodation called The Orange House still offers a retreat for rock climbers during the winter months run by Rich and is available as a large self contained villa for rent in the summer.

How It All Started

Hoof And Mountain Adventures is situated in a wonderful area of the Costa Blanca, just outside the charming village of Orxeta in the mountains backing Benidorm. Funnily enough, riding treks were not on Sam's mind when she started to take in stray and abandoned animals but after taking in here first homeless horse, the idea for Hoof And Mountain Adventures blossomed and after 3 years and 7 horses is now a popular venture with some superb horse riding treks for riders of all abilities.

Horse Riding Trek Options

2 Hour Trek – Offering various routes for riders of 13 years and over, this is a leisurely trek perfect for riders who haven't been in the saddle for a while or those with little experience. After choosing a suitable horse and a couple of practice walks around the paddock, it's off into the mountains for a fun 2 hours of riding. Riders can choose a 10:00 trek or 14:00 trek.

Half Day Trek – With a choice of morning and afternoon treks, riders can enjoy the fresh air and wonderful mountain scenery before stopping in a local village for refreshments and a snack. Once suitably fortified the ride continues through the lovely countryside nature trails.

Full Day Trek – These treks are quite flexible, allowing riders to choose new routes to explore where trotting and cantering is possible and a pleasant picnic stop in the ruins of an old castle is included. Riders have the option of combining the day with a climbing or walking activity.

One Week Trek – With leisurely evenings spent in small hotels or B&B's where livery for the horses is available, riders luggage is transported in a support vehicle and will be waiting at the accommodation after each day's ride. The trek is only suitable for experienced riders and covers about 25 kilometres per day on some of the Costa Blanca's finest nature trails. In total the adventure includes 5 days of riding and a full day's rest stop to ease aching limbs and give the horses a well deserved break too.
