We all like to spoil ourselves a bit when on holiday and the Costa Blanca's wonderful markets and large shopping complexes are perfect for a bit of retail therapy. Different shopping experiences can be found throughout the area's various villages, towns, cities and residential suburbs where visitors will find a great selection of regional and traditional Spanish products as well as popular modern high street brands. The regional fresh fruit & vegetables are of top quality and every town and city boasts a number of delicatessens offering delicious produce.
Shops & Supermarkets
The villages in Costa Blanca, especially those that are on the tourist map are where visitors will find a number of speciality shops, some selling local produce such as fruit & veg, a variety of plump marinaded olives, pickles, preserves and dried fruit, and others geared more towards tourists where you can browse local arts & crafts, wickerware, furniture and beautiful hand made embroidery. Speciality shops in the towns and cities offer great shopping where you will find an abundance of butcheries, fishmongers and delicatessens bursting at the seams with a fantastic assortment of food products. There are also shops featuring goods from a number of foreign countries in the cities where there are large expat communities. Spanish supermarkets are well stocked with local products and also offer various popular imported items.
Street & Flea Markets
Spain boasts some of the best markets in Europe and practically every town and city on the Costa Blanca has at least one street market, often on different days to each other so visitors can explore a variety of markets during the course of a week. Most holidaymakers shopping at markets tend to look for products that are rare or expensive in their hometown such as hand made leather goods, hand woven rugs and superb quality olive oils. Flea markets like El Cisne on the outskirts of Benidorm offer a wonderful array of antiques and collectables, arts & crafts, beautiful old furniture, brass & copperware, paintings, jewellery and trinkets. Most of the coastal towns and cities have fish markets and some of the larger cities boast indoor markets.
The majority of Costa Blanca's cities have at least one shopping complex, and the largest one in the Alicante province can be found in the coastal resort area of Orihuela Costa. Zenia Boulevard is a pleasure to visit with over 150 of the finest shops, boutiques, cafe's, bars, restaurants and takeaways. Here you will also find a number of popular high street brand shops and superb entertainment for both adults and children, including the Casino Mediterráneo for visitors who fancy a flutter on the tables or some fun on the fruit machines. A further selection of large shopping complexes are located in Torrevieja, Alicante, Benidorm and Ondara.
